Sometimes I feel like people on the internet forget what 2020 has been for pretty much everyone in the world and what kind of impact a year like this can have on someone's mental health like... Being quarantined for months, unable to go outside and see your loved ones and do things you love to do. The fear connected to the virus, hearing bad news after bad news everyday (and like, you can't avoid them. Cause you're stuck at home with your local news always on and when you're not watching the TV you're on social media and that's all we talk about on there too.); losing your job, attending classes on zoom, can be really deteriorating for your mental state and can induce a state of derealization (I'm definitely speaking out of experience here). In this weird ass year expecting people to be woke and politically active 24/7 is just... Not it. Sometimes people want to detach from this absurd reality and they're valid for it. If I didn't detach from social media and the mess that the world is in rn I wouldn't be here probably cause the news back when I was quarantined were driving me literally insane. I understand why you'd want people to be active and conscious rn. It's more important than ever. But you have to understand that not everyone works the same way. For someone with anxiety, depression, being attached to the news 24/7 is not healthy. They (we) need space. Every single human being needs it.
